Cyrus died 10 Aug 1852 in Fancy Creek Twp., Sangamon, Illinois, at 54 years of age. His body was interred 12 Aug 1852 in FancyCreekTwp, Sangamon Co., Illinois, Fancy Creek Township Cemetery. Fancy Creek Township Cemetery is located in the NW Quarter of the NW Quarter of Section 12, Fancy Creek Township, Sangamon County, Illinois.

He married Martha BURBRIDGE in Bath County, Kentucky, 22 Sep 1818.

From the essay on Carlisle Mitts in the "History of Sangamon County (Illinois)":

Cyrus and Martha Burbridge Mitts emigrated to Sangamon County, Illinois, from Ohio, in 1828; father a native of Pennsylvania and mother of Kentucky, where they were married, where there were two children born, James M. and Jesse. He afterwards moved to Ohio, where two daughters and one son were born, Jane, Roland, and Elizabeth. In 1829, came to Sangamon County, where there was six children born, viz: Cyrus, Robert, John, Joseph, Martha, and Mary. Mr. Mitts purchased land and made a farm in Fancy Prairie township. In August, 1852, was accidentally killed a short distance from his home, by a runaway team, by the tongue of the wagon striking him in the back. Mr. Mitts was an elder of the Christian Church, and done much in building up the same; mother died in 1862.
