Friday, January 17, 1969 Walter M. Renfro, 75 of 1708 S. 7th St. died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday at the residence, following an
illness of several years.
Born in Springfield, Mr. Renfro was the son of Wallace and Nellie Gorman Renfro. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate
Conception. American Legion Post #32, Telephone Pioneers of America, and St. Vincent de Paul's Society. A veteran of World War I Mr.
Renfro retired from Illinois Bell Telephone Co. in 1959. His wife Mary C. died in 1945.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Howard Beagles of Springfield and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Irvin R. Will will officiate and
burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The body is at Kirlin and Egan Funeral Home. His body was interred 18 Jan 1969 in Springfield, Sangamon Co., Illinois, Calvary
Cemetery.
He married Mary Cecilia BARRY in Springfield, Sangamon Co., Illinois, 23 Jun 1920. MARRIAGE ANNOUNCEMENT
from the Illinois State Journal, Springfield, Illinois on Wednesday, June 23, 1920. RENFRO-BARRY -- The wedding of Walter M.
Renfro, 1701 South First Street, and Miss Mary C. Barry, 406 S. Eighth Street, will be solemnized at 8 o'clock this morning at the church of
the Immaculate Conception, Rev. Father Hickey officiating.
Preceding the nuptial mass, a short recital will be given by Miss Marie Purcell, violinist, and Miss Bessy Hanratty, organist. The bridal
chorus will be sung by the members of the choir. At the offertory communion of the mass, Mrs. Bessy O'Brien Lantry of Chicago will give two
vocal numbers.
Also a vocal duet will be given by Tom Reynolds and Tom Yoggerst. The bridesmaid will be Miss Irene Hart, cousin of the bride, and Albert
Renfro of Chicago will act as best man. Thomas W. Barry and Frank Renfro will act as ushers. A wedding breakfast will be served at the St.
Nicholas Hotel following the ceremony to the immediate families of the couple. They will then leave for a wedding trip to northern points
and will be at home to their friends after July 15 at their apartment, 406 S. Eighth St.
Walter served in the military 1918. Walter Renfro was in World War I, spending time in Camp Gordon, Georgia, and Camp Mills, New
Jersey. He was in the 82nd division of the national Army. He was in the 307th Field Signal Battalion, Company B. He was a Signal Corps
Lineman.
At 26 years of age Walter became the father of Joseph William RENFRO in Springfield, Sangamon, Illinois, 27 Oct 1920. At
33 years of age Walter became the father of Mary Anne RENFRO in Springfield, Sangamon Co., Illinois, 13 Jan 1927. At 34
years of age Walter became the father of Elizabeth Therese RENFRO in Springfield, Sangamon, Illinois, 11 Oct 1928.
