Lewis Anderson Beagles, oldest son of Robert and Phoebe Beagles, was born in Polk township, Marshall county, June 21, 1855, and departed
this life at his home on east Laporte street in Plymouth, June 28, 1911, age 56 years, 8 days.
Mr. Beagles grew to manhood in Marshall County, and with the exception of a few years in the West, lived in and about Tyner and from early
life was highly esteemed and was an honest, upright citizen. He was united in marriage to Miss Luella Stanley, also of Polk townshp, in
1875. To this union were born eight children; seven remain to mourn the loss of father; 5 sons, Jessie V. of Laporte; Ray E. of Pendelton,
Oregon, Walter E. of South Bend; Dan W. of Plymouth and Eugene S., yet at home. Two daughters, Mrs. George Jameson and Mrs. Clarence Lee,
both of Plymouth.
"Anderson" as he was always called, was an able teamster. From early life he was a man of great strength and no task was too hard for
him to undertake. The lumber dealers of early days enjoyed his labor on account of his great ability to handle heavy timbers. About nine
years ago he moved to Plymouth and soon after obtained a dray and transfer line. The public soon learned to know him for his promptness and
courteous dealing, his word could always be relied upon. Thus he soon became one of the leading draymen of the city. He continued in his
capacity until the end of life. He was a man that took great pride in keeping his promises sacred and in so doing won the confidence of all
he had dealings with. With his companion he sought Christ and became a member of the M. E. Church at Tyner a number of years ago and was a
staunch beliver in the Christian faith until the end.
